Gelli Arts® Gel Printing Words and Letters by Marsha Valk

Hi there! It’s Marsha here today. It’s September, so it’s time for our ABC Printing Challenge on Instagram!

Join us for 26 days of gel printing fun, covering prompts for all letters of the alphabet.

The first challenge prompt is ‘Alphabet’ so I’ve devised 8 ways to incorporate letters and words into your gel prints.

And at the end of the video, I’ll also show you how you can create a leporello from the prints you’ll make inspired by the ABC challenge prompts.

Check out my video:

As you can see, there are a lot of possibilities for gel printing text or letters. The only thing you need to be mindful of is the orientation of the letters.

All text and letters must appear mirrored on the plate to be legible on the print. If you can’t read what’s on the plate, you’re doing it right!

If you’d like to make a leporello as I did, you will need an even amount of paper or cardstock, all sheets the exact same size.

I repurposed 14 gel prints from my stash, trimmed to 4″x6″.

Fold all of the prints in half and arrange them as follows:

Letters A-N facing you in alphabetical order

Letters O-Z facing away from you in reverse alphabetical order

Stack the folded prints starting with the first one from the row facing you and then alternate with the first one from the row facing away from you.

Double-check if they are indeed in the correct order before you start glueing.

Then adhere the backs of the folded prints together in this exact order. Focus is crucial, so you don’t accidentally flip one upside down.

Once you have all the prints adhered together, so they form an accordion, you can add covers.

Have fun giving it a go! And, join the Gelli Arts® artist team on Instagram for the September ABC Challenge!

Don’t forget to share your prints with us using #ABCPrintingChallenge. We’d love to see what you make!

Marsha.
