Hello everyone, welcome to the Gelli ArtsĀ® blog!
It’s Mansi again, with a new process video on using the Gelli ArtsĀ® gel printing plate to create a collage on pre-existing printed paper. Sandra and Natalia from Miss Mamamint create these beautiful floral scrapbooking papers, stencils, stamps and other mixed media products that were so fun to play with!
The black and white floral print inspired me to create a painted collage using my Gelli ArtsĀ® gel printing plate, alcohol inks and acrylics. First, I used deli paper to get a variety of prints for the flowers and leaves. I used alcohol inks in combination with acrylics and stencils from Miss Mamamint to create unique monoprints in shades of green, red and coral.
It was important to use deli paper because it’s transparent and can be used as a tracing sheet after the prints have been pulled on it. Once I had a stack of different greens and corals, I started tracing petals and leaves on the deli paper prints and cut them. I glued them on following the base lines closely but not necessarily aligning the collage pieces to the print.
When I had all my deli papers stuck on the printed floral sheet, it was easy to take a black outliner pen and trace the original line drawing over the colored prints. I then embellished this collaged piece with some glitter.
I then used the very delicate vellum with gold foil florals (another cool Miss Mamamint product) to create a band on top of the collaged paper. I also used die cut words for a sentiment to go on the collaged piece. Using foam tape and another layer of cardstock that I had previously printed on with gold paint, Miss Mamamint stencils and my Gelli ArtsĀ® gel printing plate, I created dimension. I added some more glitter details to tie the two pieces together and then stuck this to a pre folded greeting card.
For the envelope, I used Miss Mamamint’s coordinating floral stamp and colored in with water soluble color pencils. I also stuck some of the same monoprinted pieces from the card on to the flower on the envelope.
Although it looks time consuming, this card came together in less than two hours and I still have enough of my monoprints in green and coral to do another project. Also, it’s a cool way to create a flower collage background if, you’re like me, are not great at sketching backgrounds š
I hope you enjoy watching the hyper lapsed video and follow along the steps to create your own, one of a kind greeting cards.
See you next time!
