One of the most rewarding parts of my job as an
artist is connecting with others, teaching & creating together. Because of
this, I organize art retreats throughout the year for any artists who want to
experience the magic that happens in a room full of creatives!
Just recently, we had a retreat at The
Whatever Craft House in Kansas and the amazing team at Gelli®️ Arts sponsored
our group, providing tools for us to explore, learn & play! Here’s a snippet of how it went!
We journeyed from all parts of the country,
meeting internet artsy friends at the Wichita, Kansas airport & made our
way to the Whatever Craft House. This space alone is enough to make any
creative’s mouth fall open in awe. It is a feast for the eyes- pure delight
around each corner.
And soon, we filled up the tables with our
supplies, our stories, our laughter, our tears, our art and our friendships…
It did not take long for us to open up the Gelli Arts®️ Plates & get to playing. Below you’ll find a couple of videos from
the demos I did. We had all levels of experience with the Gelli Arts®️ plates there,
so we went through basics & then built to explore all kinds of fun methods.
We did the basics…
And then got moving and shaking with all kinds of
techniques- pan pastels, tracing, masking, layering…
We even tried our hand at tracing magazine faces,
a technique you can watch here:
We even did a collaborative art piece at
the end of our retreat, tying together all we learned. We each made pages with
prints & doodles. We then cut into strips, traded & did a beautiful
weaving of them. Now we each have a Gelli Arts®️ design from every attendee with us forever!
What a truly amazing experience we had
creating together and connecting! It’s amazing what making art can do. And
that, my friends, is what tools like a Gelli Arts®️ printing plate can do! We learn something
new alongside other creatives & suddenly, magic happens!
