Hi! Lucy Brydon here! In this tutorial, I shall be showing you how
to make fun decorations using log slices and the small round Gelli Arts®
printing plate.
Check out my creative process:
For this project you will need:
- Gelli Arts® Small Round Gel Printing Plate
- Brayer
- Selection of Paints: I used Black, Turquoise, White and Green.
- Scrap Paper
- Texture Tools: I used Punchinella, Combs, and Textured Cardboard
- Small Leaves
- White Gel Pens
- Paintbrushes
Step 1:
Paint the background of your log slices in a variety of colors. Leave to dry.
Step 2:
Add some texture to your slices by printing through punchinella or using
the texture tools.
In the first one I used a layer of white, pressed through
the punchinella with tissue paper then let it dry completely. Then I added a
second layer of turquoise and printing down onto my log with leaves in place. For the other logs, I printed a layer of texture before doing the third step.
Step 3:
Use real leaves to mask off the
previous color and add the next layer. They will look like a mini forest! I
used parts of fern plants but you could experiment with different kinds. If you
do not have leaves where you are you could cut some leaf stencils out of cardstock.
Step 4:
Finish them off by drawing in some
extra details with either a white gel pen or a fine brush and white paint.
Finally, you can hang them with some
colored thread or twine. Perfect Christmas decorations!
I hope this inspires you to incorporate nature in your art!
Thanks for stopping by!

Thank you so much. I was just wondering what to do with my round geli plate that I bought by accident. Love it.
Forgot to mention that I liked the non-typical holiday imagery. Sometimes I get tired of the Santa stuff and these could be used for hanging anywhere in the home.
They are beautiful Lucy.
