Printing with the New Gelli Arts® Stamping & Printing Kit

Hi there! It’s Marsha here. Have you tried
Gelli Arts® gel printing with Distress Oxide inks? It’s super fun! I’m going to
share a couple of fun stamping and printing techniques with you featuring the
new Gelli Arts® Stamping & Printing Kit!

Distress Oxide is a water-based dye &
pigment ink mix that creates watercolor and chalky oxidized effects when
sprayed with water. Prints made with Distress Oxide inks are matte and resemble
soft pastel once dry. The same process can be done using Gelli Arts® Premium
Acrylic Paints which are included in the new kits.

Regular stamping inks tend to bead up when
applied to the slick surface of the Gelli Arts® gel printing plate. Distress
Oxides can bead up too,
but it’s minimal, especially when you use a brayer to roll out the ink on
the plate.

The ink has a long open time on the Gelli
Arts® gel printing plate. This means you can really go to town with composition
and multiple layers with just one application of ink. It’s easy!

It also means that you can go through a lot
of paper fast, so make sure you have a nice stack of paper ready and within
reach before you start!

The Gelli Arts® Stamping & Printing Kit
is one of six new project kits available. The kit includes everything you need
to print, including a 5”x5” Gelli Arts® gel printing plate, a brayer and three
bottles of the new Gelli Arts® Premium Acrylic Paint.

Step 1

Take the foam sheets from the kit. Draw
designs in the foam with a ballpoint pen.

Step 2

Cut out the designs: these are your stamps!

If you like your stamps to have a bit more
grip, then you can adhere them to a scrap of cardboard. Clean the stamps with a damp cloth or rinse them with water and you can use them over and over.

Step 3

Save the extra cut pieces and use them to
create a texture plate!

Cut out petal or leaf shapes and adhere them
to a foam sheet or chipboard.

Step 4

Apply Distress Oxide ink to the 5”x5” Gelli
Arts® gel printing plate by dabbing the ink pad directly on the plate. Roll the
ink evenly out on the plate with a brayer.

Step 5

Use the punchinella and bubble wrap from the
kit to create fun backgrounds.

Distress Oxide ink stays wet on plastic
surfaces. Place inky punchinella or bubble wrap on top of an inked up gel printing plate or stamp off the excess ink on a previous print.

Step 6

Use your handmade foam stamps and texture
plate to make marks. Lift color from the plate with a dry texture plate. Or mist the stamp with water before you push it down on the Gelli Arts® gel printing plate and
see what happens!

Ink up your stamp with a different color ink
and stamp images on the gel printing plate before pulling a print.

Try using Distress Oxide on Gelli Arts® gel printing plates: the possibilities are endless! Please share results with
us in the comments!

Have fun with your new Stamping & Printing Kit from Gelli Arts®!

  1. Thanks for this beautiful tutorial. I love the color combinations as well as the charming textures. It would be awesome to see what projects are created from these fun prints!

  2. I love this! I already have all the supplies but had not thought of using the Distress Oxide with my Gelli Plates. My head is spinning with ideas. Sadly, I must head to the office.

  3. just make sure to use an even, and thicker layer on the foam stamps if you're printing on fabric, as I often do. They work great there!
