Hi there, Mary here to show how to create gel prints using household items and turn them into animal collages. It’s easier than you might think!
In the video below, I’ll show you how to create unique textured gel prints with 12 different items from around your home. Next, I’ll show you ways to cut them up and create whimsical cat and dog collages. The same process could be used for many different animals.
Here are the basic steps to create your own:
Apply acrylic paint to your gel plate with a brayer. For this project, I try to scatter my strokes and not over blend colors together to add texture and interest.
Next, while the paint is still wet, use your object to add texture (pull the comb to create lines, sprinkle the cornstarch to create spots, press down on the bubble wrap etc.)
Pull your print and give it a few moments to dry.
Use a chalk pastel or pencil to draw simple shapes for head, ears, and body. Cut out shapes.
Use gel print leftovers for your background or create new ones.
With a glue stick, adhere pieces to the background. Add any finishing touches with your favorite art supplies. These make great cards and artwork!

Gelli Arts® Gel Plate (I used a 6×6” plate, but any size can be substituted.)
Acrylic paint
Printer paper or cardstock
Leftover gel prints and/or scraps (optional)
Chalk pastel or pencil
Glue Stick
Scissors
Any supplies to finish your collages (fine tip pens, charcoal, paint pens, markers etc.)
