Hi there! It’s Marsha here today, sharing how you can gel print on tissue paper for collage.
As you probably know, March is our annual #MarchPrintingChallenge month on the Gelli Arts® Instagram account.
Participating is easy: Print with us all month and share your prints with us on Instagram by tagging @gelliarts and using the #MarchPrintingChallenge hashtag!
Today’s prompt is COLLAGE, and I’ve decided to use the six previous prompts to help me gel print on tissue paper that I will then use for my collage.
Thin paper can be prone to tearing while pulling it from the gel plate. To prevent this from happening, it’s a good idea to always let the paint AND the paper dry before you pull the print.
This applies to the tissue paper I used in the video, rice paper, copy paper, and most other thin papers.
If your paper still tears after letting it dry, try to find a different paper with a smooth, calendered surface instead.
I use matte medium under and over the tissue paper to adhere to my substrate. This way, the tissue paper becomes (almost) transparent.
Let the collage and the substrate underneath dry entirely before you start trimming away any excess tissue paper.
And one last tip: Use a wet brush to mark tissue paper so you can tear it more precisely.
Happy gel printing this month! We’d love to see you join us for the March Printing Challenge!
Marsha.

Marsha, I just LOVE your work! I appreciate your sharing your techniques. I’ve only dabbled in gel printing and am always wondering, when I see others’ work, just HOW to create what I’ve seen!
Wonderful lesson – thank you! I’m new to the gel plate and need lots of inspiration. ❤️
Beautifully done.
