Recycled Jeans Purse with Gelli Arts® by Giovanna Zara

Hello everyone, Giovanna here! Today, I’ve combined recycling, my passion for gel printing, and slow stitching in a video. I’ll show you how to create a beautiful purse out of an old pair of jeans. It’s perfect for holding pencils, make-up, or – just like me – a small kit for gel printing on the go.

I used regular acrylic paint. If you’d like the fabric to be washable, you can add fabric medium to it or simply use fabric paint instead.

Enjoy 😊 Wishing you a 2024 full of creativity and a lot of gel printing!😊

 Step by step:

-Cut a large chunk of the jeans leg

-Adhere a stencil on the jeans

-Spread a blob of white opaque acrylic paint on the Gelli® plate, flip over the plate and press over the plate. Let it dry a bit.

-Leaving the stencil in place repeat previous step using bright acrylic paint.

-When dry- embellish with slow stitching and beading.

-Sew closed the bottom of the purse and adhere a self-adhesive Velcro strap on the top to use as closure.

Materials I used:

Gelli Arts® 8×10 Printing Plate

Gelli Arts® ‘Hellebore’ 5”X7” stencil

Gelli Arts® ‘Geo’ stencil

Gelli Arts® Brayer

-Acrylic paint

-Embroidery floss and needle

-Beads

-Old Jeans

  1. I would love a to make this project; are there directions on how to make the “purse” and I’m interested in the clasp too.
    Thank you,
