You can make your accordion fold as tall and long as you like. For example, I wanted my accordion fold to have four panels 6 inches tall and about 4 inches wide. So I cut a strip of paper about 6″x16 3/4″.
The kind of paper you choose makes a difference for mixed media projects like this. In the video, you can see that my paper was a bit on the thin side, and the stamping ink bled through when I stamped on top of my gel-printed accordion.
So if you intend to stamp images in your accordion fold, I suggest you test if your stamping ink bleeds through to the other side of the paper before you start gel printing.
Once you’ve masked off most of the panels in your accordion fold, the fun starts!
Fill the entire accordion fold with gel prints. The key is not to overthink it. Have a blast!
Yes, it will start to look crazy at some point; however, if you distribute the colours evenly over the paper and ensure there is no white space directly around the masks, it’s all good.
You can fill the white ‘spots’ on your gel-printed accordion with anything. For example, I used them to record some of the flowers I have in my garden!
