Creating Collage Pages with Gelli Arts® Gel Prints by Lou Sims

Hi everyone, Lou Sims here.

One of the things I adore doing, which helps me chill or zone out, is create collage pieces whether in my art journals or as cards. I’m not sure if I am like you and have many created backgrounds that I love to look at but never seem to use. With this in mind I choose a selection of co-ordinated colour backgrounds and one extra as a contrast to create some quick, layered collage pages.

I began by chopping up my backgrounds in to smaller pieces and used them as my starting point for my art journal pages.

Next I added some extra collage pieces to break up the backgrounds and add another layer.

To tie everything in, I used similar paint colours with my Gelli Arts® Multi Stencil and added a few decorative pieces.

Using my smaller 3” x 5” Gelli Arts® gel printing plate with a mix of white & gold paint, I added some additional panels to centre of each page to help “knock back” some of my layers and soften the overall design.

Afterwards, I added left over stickers and rub-ons to my pages to hide some of the harsh lines from all the angular layers I had placed.

Finally I added my sentiment stickers.

As I said earlier, I love creating collage layers upon layers but never really having a plan in my head other than choosing my printed backgrounds. In essence, going with the flow & see what happens next.

Here are some close ups of my finished pages.

  1. Awesome journal pages and great idea how to use prints.
Thank you so much for the great inspiration and awesome video.
Stay safe and have a wonderful day.

    1. Hi! The sentiment stickers are Tim Holtz ones from way back when. The rub ons were from Lou’s stash and company unknown. She discovered a whole wallet of goodies when making this video that she had forgotten she even had!! Hope that helps in one way or another! 🙂
