Hello and welcome to
the Gelli Arts® blog!
It’s Birgit here and
today I’m going to show you 3 ways of printing with leaves.
Because it’s fall and
there is plenty of printing material available!
I love printing with
leaves! It is very simple but also very satisfying as it is almost impossible
to go wrong!
The only things you
need are paper, acrylic paint and a good handful of leaves.
First start with
printing a bunch of colorful backgrounds.
Then place a sheet of
paper (same size as your printing paper) underneath your Gelli Arts® gel
printing plate so you can line up your paper with that later.
Way 1 – single print:
Step 1:
Cover the plate with
paint. Not too thick because then you will lose the details.
Step 2:
Create a composition
with the leaves
Step 3: place a sheet
of printer paper on top to remove all the
paint around the leaves.
Step 4: remove the
printer paper and the leaves.
Step 5: place a sheet
of colorful background paper on top of the remaining paint and pull the print.
Way 2 – double print:
Repeat step 1 and 2 of
the single print.
Step 3: Place a sheet
of colorful printed background paper on top of the leaves. Make sure to line
your paper up with the paper that is underneath the plate. Rub firmly, then
remove the paper.
Step 4: remove the
leaves.
Step 5: place the
sheet you just printed back on the plate, lining it up again with paper
underneath the plate. Pull the print.
Way 3 – ghost print:
Repeat step 1 to 4 of
the single print.
Step 5: let the paint
dry.
Step 6: apply a thin
layer of paint on top of the dried paint.
Step 7: place a sheet of
paper on the plate, rub firmly and pull the print.
Here are additional prints! Enjoy!!
Thank you for
watching! I hope you enjoyed the video and that you got inspired to go out and
find yourself some beautiful leaves to play with!

Stunning and effective technique. I have so many leaves in the garden. It is a beautiful way of making memories with nature.
Thank you, this is so helpful and beautiful. I’ve been looking for a tutorial to help me print with leaves, this is it!
I LOVE this technique! Thanks so much. I use your blog samples all the time when I teach at my local art store. After two years I now have a handful of women who show up every time I offer a Gelli plate printing class. I will definitely do this class next year.
Wow what a stunning result!
Very inspiring too!
Whoooooooooooooooooo, wonderful!

What is gelly plate? Can we use glass plate.
Hello! A Gelli Arts® plate is different than a glass plate. It is a durable and reusable gel printing plate- you can find out more here: https://www.gelliarts.com/pages/faq
Is this done with dried or fresh leaves? So beautiful and so many great ideas!
Hi! Yes, they are real leaves. Fake leaves work as long as they have thicker veins. You need the texture! Thanks for asking 🙂
