Gelli Arts® Printed Gem Ornaments

Hi there! It’s Marsha here and I’ve got a cute project for you that
will add a little glam to your holidays. It’s suitable for all ages, so the
kids can join in too!

Step 1:

Take a couple of chipboard sheets and gelli® print on them on both
sides.

If you stick to a limited colour palette of two colours that make
up a third colour when mixed, you don’t need to clean your plate in between
pulls. In the sample I used turquoise and two pink tones. If you mix them
together you get purple.

Start with prints of just blocks of colour and then move on to
making marks and pulling partial prints of the marks on the chipboard sheets.

Watch my video to get a better idea of how I did it!

Step 2:

Use the Gelli Arts®Mini Printing Plates to stamp onto the gelli® printed chipboard sheets with
more paint. Use metallic paints for an extra festive look!

Step 3:

Once the paint is dry, you can cut the chipboard into shapes. Use
the Mini Printing Plates as a template or just cut your own freehand shapes.

Step
4:

Transform the chipboard shapes by drawing on them to make them
look like real gems.

Optional:

Add a glossy finish to the gems. I heat embossed
each gem with clear embossing powder, but you can also use something like Glossy Accents
or a gloss varnish/sealer for this.

Just make sure that the pen you used to draw the gems is
waterproof, so you don’t smear your drawings when brushing on the varnish!

Step 5:

Punch a hole it each gem and add a ribbon.

Use the gems to decorate your tree or use them as cute gift tags!

Happy Holidays!

  1. Wow! These are fabulous and so clever! Thanks for the tutorial Marsha – you make it look do-able.

  2. What great ornaments to make, especially since ours are in storage, awaiting a moving van. So, I think I will make some of these, hang them from a branch, and place gifts beneath it. Sure love playing with all the gelli plates! Thanks for all the wonderful and inspirational videos.
